Hailes Castle is a historic castle located in East Lothian, in southeastern Scotland. The castle was built in the 15th century and served as the seat of the Hepburn family.

In the 16th century the castle passed into the hands of the Sinclair family, who expanded it. At that time the castle served as an important cultural centre, and Scottish poets and artists were often hosted within its walls.

During the civil war in the 17th century Hailes Castle was besieged numerous times and destroyed by government troops. In the 18th century the castle was abandoned and fell into ruin.

Today Hailes Castle is open to visitors and is managed by Historic Environment Scotland. Visitors can admire the splendid ruins of the castle and visit the nearby St Andrew's Church, which was built at the same time as the castle. In the church you can see 15th-century stained glass windows, which are among the oldest in Scotland.

Hailes Castle is also known for the beautiful landscapes in which it is set. It is situated on a hill with lovely views over the surrounding area. Nearby is Hailes Quarry Country Park, which is a popular place for relaxation and walks.
